Manhole

Manhole is a (politically incorrect) name for concrete structure designed to allow access to an underground service, such as a stormwater pipe or a sewer.

Drainage

In the drainage arena a manhole might be typically be referred to as a Junction Pit, but the Queensland Urban Drainage Manual refers to both manhole chambers and junction structures.

Sewerage

In the case of sewerage WSAA prefers the use of the term maintenance hole to manhole.
