The carriageway is that portion of the road formation, including lanes, auxiliary lanes and shoulders that is set aside for the use of vehicles, either moving or stationary.
AMCORD defines a carriageway as the area of street reserve which is provided for the movement or parking of vehicles and determined by the invert of a kerb and channel and the point adjacent to the pavement edge for kerb (only) and edge strips.
