by Wayne EddyWayne Eddy 14 Mar 2011 23:20

One of the main ambitions of this site is to try and get people from every Council in Australia communicating and sharing information with each other.
This page has been set up to try and document which Councils are aware of and using the site.
If you are site member, and you work for a Council but haven't nominated which one, please let us know so that we can update the table below.

National Performance Reports

by Wayne EddyWayne Eddy 01 Sep 2010 22:53

The National Performance Report (NPR) presents a consistent and informative overview of the performance of Australian urban water utilities and the essential services they provide. The NPR is an important initiative as it collates, at the national level, information on urban water and the performance of the urban water industry. The NPR builds on the experience gained from previous WSAAfacts, State and Territory based regulatory reporting and Australian Water Association (AWA) reporting. The NPR improves the data integrity of national reporting through an auditing regime and also provides for a comparison of water utility performance over time and between utilities, giving the opportunity for individual utilities to benchmark their performance against those of similar utilities.

Knowledge Sharing Sites & Networks

by Wayne EddyWayne Eddy 01 Sep 2011 23:41

There are a lot of knowledge sharing sites & networks used by local government people. It would be great if there was a single place that all local government staff could go to, to find and share information, but that horse may have already bolted. That doesn't mean that the existing knowledge sharing sites & networks can't work together to make the end users life a bit easier, in fact they are doing themselves and the local government community as disservice if they don't. Publishing information under a creative commons licensing and making data available as RSS feeds is a good start, and proving links to the other sites & networks is important too.

CT Management Group are Asset Management Consultants contracted by LGAQ to run a series of workshops as part of the LG Asset Program.
They are one of the 18 consultancies approved by Local Buy in early 2008.

The program will continue to highlight the four key principles:
Policy - ensuring that policy provisions are actually observed and implemented across the organisation
Strategy - an emphasis on the improvements necessary to achieve nominated standards of management and reporting
Plans - Asset and Service Management Plans designed around IIMM provisions plus a comprehensive appreciation of Levels of Service and Service Standards
Operations - ensuring that the organisation works harmoniously in an operational mode, all data is up to date and accurate, and the budget framework and Capital Works Program are consistent with long term sustainable performance.
LG Asset Advanced will ensure that your Council can confidently address the asset and services management needs for your community. Currently 47 of the 56 non-indigenous Queensland Councils are registered in the LG Asset Program, and will be involved in LG ASset Advanced.

LGAM Unit Rate Database - Sewer Maintenance Holes

by Wayne EddyWayne Eddy 06 Nov 2009 01:45

The LGAM Unit Rate Database is an attempt to make it easy for Councils to share unit rate information.

Whilst unit rates may vary considerably from one municipality to another, having access to the unit rates from a range of locations, may be useful for benchmarking purposes, or for estimating works not undertaken on a regular basis.

At this point in time the database is a series of public Zoho spreadsheets that calculate average unit rates for a range of Council related activities. Anyone can view the information in the spreadsheets by clicking on the link below the tables.

The project is still in its infancy, but a few tables have been seeded with Bundaberg Regional Council unit rates to get things started.

If you would like to contribute information to the project please contact moc.liamg|riafnekrad#moc.liamg|riafnekrad

Detention time is the length of time that sewage remains in the gravity or rising mains or in pump station wet wells before it reaches the wastewater treatment plant. The longer it is detained in the system, the greater the likelihood that conditions arise that are conducive to the development of odors due to hydrogen sulfide production. Apart from producing malodorous gasess, the sewage also becomes more difficult to treat once it reaches the sewage treatment plant. Consquently, the goal is to keep the time in which raw sewage remains in the system to a minimum.

Activity Types

by Wayne EddyWayne Eddy 15 Dec 2008 22:57

Activities can be grouped in many different ways, but four of the most common groupings are upgrade, renewal, maintenance and operation. There are several definitions for each of these terms, but even if a definition is agreed upon, there are always some activities that fall into the grey area between groups. One way to get around this problem is to define a group not by a written definition, but by explicitly listing all activities that are members of a group. The table below is an attempt to do this.
